What’s on in June 2017

New at the Museum & Art Gallery!

Discovering Ancient Egypt, 13 June to 16 September

A temporary exhibition displaying the highlights of Newport Museum’s Egyptology collection, including finds excavated by famous Egyptologist Flinders Petrie.

[This ancient Egyptian wooden hawk was associated with the god Horus. He was the god of the sky, a symbol of divine kingship, and protector of the pharaoh. Horus was also the god of order and justice and the god of the east and the rising sun. This wooden hawk would have decorated a coffin lid for a burial approximately 2,500 years ago. This is one of the many Egyptian artefacts held by Newport Museum and Art Gallery.]
