EXAMPLES OF PICTURES CURRENTLY ON DISPLAY AT NEWPORT ART GALLERY

Fonmag has not forgotten Newport Museum and Art Gallery's art collection and we recommend you visit as changes have been made to the exhibited items. The total collection consists of 508 works of art which can be seen on the website ‘Your Paintings – Uncovering the Nation’s Art Collection’.

Obviously these 508 important works of art cannot be displayed at once, but the exhibited works of art are changed from time to time. Why not visit. Some of the paintings currently on display at Newport Art Gallery include:-

John Selway', ‘The Hunchback in the Park’

Thomas Rathmell, ‘Sideboard’

Charles Burton, ‘Back from the Club’

Ernest Zobole, ‘The Valley No.5’

Valerie Ganz, ‘Dai Deacon’

Stanley Lewis, ‘Sleeping Child’

Gerald Kelly, ‘The Little Model’

Below you can see John Selway’s ‘The Hunchback in the Park’ and John Selway’s art work can be seen upstairs in Newport Market which is an area occupied by various local artists.

To find out more about John Selway’s work follow the link below to Jonathan Glasbrook-Griffiths article. Jon is an active member of Fonmag.

Please note that soon Fonmag will be organising tours of the Art Gallery featuring certain paintings.

Note also that we have a special evening on Tuesday 8 December: a 'Member's Evening'

This will include a discussion about the life and work of Edgar James Maybery (1887-1964), a prolific Newport born painter and etcher. Below is one of his paintings in the collection entitled 'Newbridge on Usk; The Bridge'.

Do you have examples of his work? Would you like to add information about Mayberry on 8th December? Perhaps you would like to talk about another artist? If so, come and join us as this is your opportunity to a give a short talk, or if you prefer someone will read what you have written. Contact Richard Frame if you have a work of art you wish to discuss so that we can display the work of art on a screen on the evening.
